We’ve all played it. We’ve allowed thoughts to percolate in our minds. We allow our sensual desires to go unchecked. We allow our eyes to covet. We believe that we are so important and get angry when others don’t have the same high opinions of us that we have of ourselves. We let these thoughts and desires take root in our hearts, and then the fruit is seen in our actions. We give our tongue the freedom to say what’s in our hearts. We allow our eyes the liberty to look and crave. We get in the car and drive to where we want to go. We call our friends, and we say what we want to say. We choose what to click and where to browse. We avoid what we want to avoid. We are silent when we want to be silent. We choose.

Then, God graciously exposes our dark, deceitful hearts. God uses many tools in His belt. But it is God doing the work. Resisting His means is resisting Him. When God’s lovingkindness exposes our deceitful hearts, we will respond. We will either react like Adam, blaming God and Eve, or we will respond like David, owning our choices and admitting that we have sinned against God.

If you choose to cover and lie about your sin, then know from the lips of God you will not prosper (Proverbs 28:13) , and God will resist you and your pride (James 4:6). But if you choose to confess and hold yourself accountable for your choices, then from the lips of God, there is forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and cleansing, restoration and grace (Psalm 51).

Choose wisely. Choose biblically. The choice is yours.
