I do not think there is one person in the world right now that would say we are living in a perfect place without the need for change. I think everyone would agree with me that we have a problem. What we disagree on is the problem itself and any possible solutions. So how can we make the world a better place? How can we turn hate to love and war to peace? Isn’t it what we all want?

As good as that sounds, it simply isn’t possible. The Devil definitely isn’t pursuing peace, and he knows nothing about love. Romans 1 describes human beings who are hostile toward God. They hate God. They hate who is He and the truth He has revealed in His Word. God cannot move from His position. So if we believe the Bible, the majority of mankind does not want Biblical love and peace with God. They may want the blessings and benefits of these things, but they want it without God. That will never happen.

So let’s go back and talk about the problem that we all agree we have. What is the problem? Some would say the problem is racism, world hunger, abortion, sex trafficking, capitalism, socialism, marxism, slavery, drunkenness, mental health, poverty, and the list goes on. But the Bible says that the problem is man’s rebellious hard-hearted hatred and hostility against a loving, omnipotent, holy God who demands submission and worship (Romans 8:7). All problems stem from that problem. Simply put, the problem is me and you. I know that’s not an enjoyable statement, but let me help us see this from another angle. Let’s say that I was feeling weak, nauseous, and couldn’t sleep all last week. So, I go to an expert on human health, a doctor. The doctor runs tests and tells me that my symptoms are evidences that I have a disease. Would a good doctor give me sleeping meds and then send me on my way? No, a good doctor is going to look for the problem that is causing the symptoms. For the symptoms to disappear, the problem must be treated. Our sinful disease is of our own doing. We all have made choices to disregard God’s rule and live life our own way.

The symptoms that I really hate in the world today are abortion and sex crimes against children. But let’s say that through all my efforts of emotional appeal, logic, persuasion, tweets, and posts that abortion and sex crimes ended. There would be no more killings or abuse of babies and children anymore on the entire earth! There would be reconciliation between those outside the womb and those inside the womb. Children would be safe from sexual predators. But if in my efforts, there was no call to repentance, no striving to help mankind be reconciled to GOD, then it is all vanity. The mothers, children, the abused, and the abusers would still spend eternity separated from God and facing His full wrath for all their sins. They will die from the disease if we only address the symptoms! Fill in the symptom that you hate the most. Let’s say that symptom is completely eradicated on the earth. Then what? Is it not vanity if men and women do not repent? What’s more tragic than that?

Christian, by all means, call out and lament the symptoms that you see in the world today there are many. But make sure that you direct mankind to the Expert who can heal their diseases (Psalm 103). It’s sad to me that as believers we have the hope that people need, and we are not giving it to them. We are giving them placebos that are culturally acceptable, yet spiritually harmful. A sick person needs to hear the hard diagnosis of cancer so he can have the hope and means of ridding it from his life. A sinner needs to hear the diagnosis of “rebel against God” so that, by the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ, he can have the hope and means by the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ of ridding the rebellion in his heart.

Lately, we have been shouting out against the symptoms of human rebellion against God. I have seen it so much in my small circle of Facebook friends. My heart grieves that each professing believer has not clearly expressed the hope for the symptom- the Person and work of the God-man Jesus Christ. This message should be the loudest. I’m guilty of shouting out more about politics than the power of the gospel. May it never be again in my life. May I love people over my opinions and share the truth from God’s Word. My purpose in this life is not to convince anyone to agree with my opinions. How foolish I have been. My purpose is to share Christ and Him crucified.

One day this world will be cured of the disease of sin. One day every evil symptom from the curse given in Genesis 3 will be gone. No more murder, no more extortion, no more sexual assault, no more lies, no more greed, no more hate, no more anger. The only way our friends and loved ones will be able to experience a life free from the curse is if they turn from their trespasses and sins and look to Jesus Christ in faith. What a wonderful message! I deserve the wrath of God. I’m guilty. But God gave His love to me in that though I’m a sinner, Christ died for me. He’s transformed my life. He can transform your life too.

Christian, do people know where you stand politically or whether you support BLM or not, but do not know if you believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to all injustices? I want people to know that I see and grieve the evil done under our sun. But I cannot stop there, it falls too short. I must let people know there is a good, just, and wrathful God who sees it to. Not just the sins of our nation, but each individual’s sinful choices. I must let them know that God has provided a way for every sin to be forgiven. I must tell them about the good news of Jesus Christ. I hope you will tell them too.
